Students are housed in the Brenau University residence halls under the supervision of an adult houseparent. Normally, there are 2 students per room, sometimes triplets, but no single rooms are available. We group students by sex, age, and similar studies, and we try to honor roommate requests. Students are not allowed in residence halls of students of the opposite sex or halls not used by Firespark!
Firespark! staff is also concious of the special needs of some students and we offer a some Handicap accessible dorm rooms (located on first floors and fitted with private bathrooms.) Most Brenau Dorms have suites where a bath is shared between two rooms, others have community baths on the hall. Exact housing assignments are not made until a few days before camp begins.
What to Bring
The dorm rooms will consist of single beds, some bunks, dressers, possible a desk, and a closet. You will need:
- Bedding and bath linens-enough for two weeks if you do not plan on using the laundry facilities. Be aware that housing staff will not have a supply of linens in case you forget (The AC can get cold in July!!!!!)
- Personal hygiene items- the bookstore will have some extra items and detergent for sale.
- It will be your responsibility to get yourself to breakfast and to the first class at 8:45 so bring an alarm clock. (refer to the Rules and Reg.s page to see the consequences of missing the first or any class.)
Students are exepected to care for their own basic needs(getting up in the morning, grooming, being in class o time, etc.)
See our "survival tool kit" for more information about what we suggest students bring to Firespark!.
Supervision
Students are in a college environment, and are expected to act responsibly. Instructors supervise classes and houseparents supervise each residence hall in the mornings and at night. Someone is always on duty in the housing office dinning hall during meal times and Firespark! head office, but students have a certain amount of independence. They are not with an adult 24 hrs/day.
