Art and Design Students at Firespark! select courses from the following areas:

Ceramics
This class introduces the student to the ideas and basic techniques of ceramics, exploring clay as an art material: pinch, coil, slab, modular construction, etc.  Introduction to glaze techniques, wheel and molds, kiln loading, firing, and basic concepts of three-dimensional design are also covered.

Digital Photography
You'll learn everything from how to take, save and print digital photographs to how to use the computer to crop, edit or "artistically treat" your photographs.  You must bring your own camera for this class (2 megapixel or higher resolution).  We support the following media:  CompactFlash, IBM Microdrive, SmartMedia Card, MultiMedia Card/Secure Digital, or Memory Stick

Drawing
Students will explore the essentials of drawing using charcoal and pencil with an emphasis on studio production.  This course is designed to help develop higher-level thinking, art-related technology skill, art criticism, and aesthetics.

Metals and Jewelry Design
Students will learn metalsmithing techniques to create jewelry and other artistic objects

Painting I: Traditional Approaches to Easel Painting with Oils
Students will explore the use of acrylic paint on canvas with specific attention to landscapes and portraitures. 

Painting II:  Contemporary Approaches to Painting

This class allows the students to explore their own interests in painting using things like anime, urban art, mixed media, and collaboration.

Photography
Black and white composition, color slides, and printing techniques. Students should supply their own 35mm camera with single-lens reflex. Manual exposure is preferred.
