Music Students at Firespark! select courses from the following areas:
Applied Music
Private lessons are offered in voice, piano, organ, violin, viola, cello, classical guitar (acoustic, i.e., non-electric), woodwinds, brass and percussion instruments for an additional fee of $95. Students receive two lessons (45 minutes each) each week. Many students will have lessons scheduled during their activity time or afternoon break, however, some students will be required to miss a portion of one of their other classes two days each week due to instructor availability and scheduling conflicts.
Class Guitar
Beginning studies in guitar. Students must bring their own acoustic guitar (non-electric).

Online Music Promotion and Music Business
Students will be given an overview of the music industry with a special emphasis on recording and publishing contracts. Other areas of study will include an introduction to copyright law and licensing agencies such as ASCAP and BMI.
A Brief History of Jazz and Rock & Roll
From beginnings in New Orleans and the Mississippi Delta, witness how that heritage manifested itself in jazz legends such as Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie, and rock gods The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix. Following through to modern-day stars such as Wynton Marsalis, John Zorn, Radiohead, and The White Stripes.
Music Improvisation Class
An opportunity for the instrumental student to develop skills in improvisation and hear chord changes. No previous improvisation experience required.
Music Production and Audio Design
The recording technology class offers students the opportunity to learn the process of music production. Students will use professional recording software (Pro Tools) and learn how to record, edit, mix and master their recordings professionally. By the end of camp the class will have produced a cd of the songs they have recorded. They will also learn the concept and application of signal flow, which is elemental in the understanding of recording technology.
Song Writing and Arranging
The basics of lyrics, melody and harmony and how to get them from your imagination to a live performance.
Theory/Composition
Basics of musical notation, melody, harmony, and form; development of aural and compositional skills.
Students will study techniques and principles of music in the various classes, along with practical applications. Some students, individuals and groups, compose pieces that are premiered on Music Night or in the Student Talent Showcase. Others may study and perform on their principal instrument or voice.
